For the past couple of months, it's been full speed ahead on the construction project to get us into our new sanctuary. We've been using the lobby area of our new facility to conduct services, and though it's served us well temporarily, it's definitely cramped.

Almost every Saturday many of the men from the church as well as some of the women have been down at the building working fervently. These Saturday work days have been filled with lots of sweat and humor. Walls have been torn down, new walls put up, steps built, walls textured and painted, lights, electricity, carpet, etc, etc, etc. In short - a whole lot of work has been done in a short period of time. We are all appreciative to everyone who continues to sacrifice their time to work on this project.

Thursday night, we held our first Bible Study service in the new sanctuary although it's not 100% completed, it's getting close enough that everyone wanted to stretch out a little.

We're looking forward to the fully finished product.

View More Photos of the Building Project

Voice of the Pastor: March 2009

We have just celebrated our 9th anniversary of Family Worship Center (view photos). What a joyful occasion it was! The service was full of great music including a special presentation from our Deaf Ministry. There were also awe-inspiring testimonies of appreciation of what God has meant to them this last year. To cap things off, a moving slide show chronicling 2008 was shown. It brought back many great memories. The service concluded with the always-entertaining preaching of Rev. Joel Bryant. Afterward, we gathered into our future sanctuary to enjoy a huge spread of food, finished with a special anniversary cake for dessert. We, no doubt, have some of the best cooks in all of Pentecost. Wow! What a great year it has been. Thank you, Jesus!

These last couple of months were marked as times of sacrifice for our church body. These sacrifices encompassed our time, talent, and finances. God has indeed honored it.

I would like to extend my appreciation to all who participated in our continuous chain of prayer and fasting in the month of February. The results were answered prayers and powerful moves of God during our church services. Some of you even chose to extend your commitments into the next month. I am thankful for that.

There were also sacrifices of your talents. Men gave up many of their Saturdays and came to the church to work on our new sanctuary (view photos). The women also got involved by cooking sumptuous meals for our workers. There was a great spirit of unity present throughout.

Financial sacrifices were also included. For instance, in one Sunday over $24,000.00 was given in offerings by church members towards our building program to finish the church sanctuary. On the same day, another $4,000.00 was taken up as commitments to give later. People also brought to the altar things which kept them from drawing closer to God. Others wrote things on slips of paper and gave them up to God as a sacrifice. As a pastor, I couldn’t be more deeply moved by their responses.

An important principle was illustrated by King David in 2 Samuel 24:24. David said, “...neither will I offer burnt offerings (sacrifices) unto the LORD my God of that which cost me nothing.” In other words, sacrifices are not sacrifices unless it costs you something. As one preacher put it, “It’s not a sacrifice unless it hurts”. We soon learn that the greater the sacrifice, the greater the cost. But surely the greater reward will be in the end. God is indebted to no man. He will dispense His rewards accordingly. No doubt, great treasures are being stored up in heaven. Thank you for your many sacrifices.

In His service,
Pastor Lawrence Exum

Voice of the Pastor: Entering 2009

The holidays are behind us and the year has come to a close. This last year has been an eventful one that experienced many of God's blessings. What does 2009 hold? Only God knows. We are beginning a new presidency for our country. Our economy is now officially in a recession. We, as a church, have ventured out and moved into a larger building which is exciting but more financially challenging. There are also personal struggles that face many of us (physical as well as Spiritual). While I am confident that God can get us through it all, it will not happen by accident. Most good things occur on purpose.

In the Bible, the Israelites understood a valuable principle that brought them many blessings throughout the year. In accordance to the Mosiac law, individuals brought to the House of the Lord "The first of the first fruits of the land" (Ex. 23:19, 34:26). This included grain, wine, and oil. The tithes (tenth) that supported the priests were also based on that principle. They were not only giving God their best, but were doing it "first."

The other important lesson that Scripture teaches us is the importance of fasting during challenging times. Queen Esther fasted when her nation and people were threatened (Esther 4:16). The early church often fasted in seeking God's will in the local church (Acts 13:2). Individually, Jesus expects us to fast as part of the normal Christian experience (Matt. 6:16-17). Jesus Himself fasted and prayed to prepare himself for the challenges that were ahead (Matt. 4:1-2). How much more should we? Jesus even said somethings can't come except by prayer and fasting (Matt. 17:21).

All of this being said, I feel strongly that it is the will of God that we apply these principles of "first fruits" and "fasting" to Family Worship Center. What better way to begin the year than with fasting and prayer? As pastor of this church, I would like to declare the entire month of January 2009 a time of fasting and prayer.

I would like to have each day of this month set aside for this purpose. Please sign up for at least one day this month. Some of you could fast for several days. There are enough people in our congregation that we should have each day of the entire month covered. What an assurance it would be for me as pastor to know that every day in the month of January will be covered with prayer and fasting. Please pray for God's strength, provision and direction in individual lives and as a church. Please also pray that God will continue to send a harvest of souls our way and for revival.

I was also pleased to find out that our General Superintendent Kenneth Haney has also proclaimed the month of January as a time of prayer and fasting for the United Pentecostal Church worldwide. Please join me for a time of prayer and fasting for God's continued blessings. I am confident that we will then be prepared for the challenges of this coming year. Thank you for your participation.

In His Service,
Pastor Lawrence Exum

We've Moved!

All services will now be held at our new location at 109 Klamath Court!

Please join us at our new church building for all upcoming services and events.

Get Directions

Contact us if you have any additional questions.

Don't forget the Time Change!

This Saturday night, Daylight Savings Time ends. Approximately 150 people from the church, their friends, family and other acquaintances swarmed into a local park for worship, food, fun, contests, and games. We were especially honored to have Pastor Exum's father and mother in attendance.

The set-up crew arrived bright and early to get all the tents, tables, and chairs ready for the coming events. Bill Mentser fired up the barbecue and before long the fragrance of tri-tip and chicken was wafting through the park.

After a short song service, Pastor Exum preached a message on Heaven to the congregation spread out under tents on folding chairs, lawn and camping chairs, blankets, or standing along the edges. Then it was time to eat the incredible spread of food.

When everyone had their fill, the kids ran off to enjoy the jump house, petting zoo, and pony rides. Soon after, games and competitions began. A highlight of each years' picnic is the watermelon eating contest. The kids were up first with girls' and boy's winners. Then, the ladies' dove in with vigor where Ruby won first place. The men always are up for the challenge to try to beat the past 2 year's running champion - Robert Exum. Dispite their nobel efforts, Robert once again took first place.

There were bag races and tug of war. They decided to do the "older" men versus the "younger" men. The younger men didn't hold any weight (literally) against the older men. But everyone was in good spirits and had a lot of fun.

Throughout the afternoon, everyone enjoyed snow cones and cotton candy - especially the kids which was appropriate since this event was specifically geared toward the Sunday School aged children in the community. But regardless of age, everyone had an equal amount of energy and fun.

A special thanks to our Pastor's Wife, Kim Exum, and her crew for all her had work to make this event a success. It was a time of just plain fun with absolutely no need to get anything done except relax, enjoy other ladies' company and savor the day. It is not often we can get a group of women and young ladies racing about in a speed boat, tubing behind that same speed boat with a lunatic driver, riding on jet skies, attempting to water ski (I tried 8 times but could not stay up. Maybe next outing I will succeed).

Or.... for the less adventurous ones, floating on the private island tied to the houseboat or tanning while laying on the floating devices, swimming in the water that felt so refreshing or eating through out the entire day on the other pontoon boat we had (You know fellowship always requires food). We even saw a deer come down close to the water. Amazing. This event was such a hit that we will certainly be doing it again next year.

View More Pictures

- Naysla Stacks

Campmeeting 2008 CDs

Did you miss Western District Campmeeting this year? Before the drive to Sacramento, where the raceway is located, the men decided to go to Highway 29 Café for a hearty meal that would stick with them throughout the day.

Finally, around 12pm, we pulled into RPM Racing. There were 7 men who came out to race including Shannon Boyt, Rafael Barrera, Eddie Caragan, Jon Jackson, Jonathan Jackson, Bobby Jackson, and Tony Lamattina, After everyone who wanted to race registered to drive, they got their racing cards and tickets showing what time to get suited up for the race.

The racers had to put on a special racing suit, mask and helmet and before long, they were all feeling just how hot this race was going to be. Finally at 12:40, it was time to race! We were off! Jon Jackson was in front of the pack followed by Bobby, Jonathan, Tony, Rafa and Shannon. Eddie was on the sidelines taking pictures of everyone racing.

There were a lot of twists and turns going around the race track. And we felt each and every one because going at top speeds of 40mph is pretty fast for a little go kart!

When the first race was finished, we took of our helmets and found out how hot and sweaty we all were. We took a five minute break until it was time for the second and final race. The total race time is 10 minutes, but it felt shorter since we were all having a good time. Plus, the second time through the track didn’t seem as hard, but it was still pretty tricky. When finally the race was over, we were all hot and tired. We knew we were going to feel it in the morning for sure!

At about 2pm, everyone decided that two races would be enough for one day and started to head home. We proudly collected our papers showing our race performance and lap times. So after a long day of adrenaline, sweat, and rubber I’m sure we all can say that the FWC Men’s RPM Racing 2008 Event was yet another successful event!

View More Pictures

- By Rafael Barrera

Fourth of July: Parade, BBQ & Fireworks

What felt like the crack of dawn for some us, we were up early in anticipation of the long and exciting day ahead. We were excited to be representing Family Worship Center for the first time in American Canyon's annual 4th of July Parade. It seems like everyone from the town pours out to watch, so we knew our debut had to be just right.

The youth group and children from Sunday School arrived at 8am at the Exums' home to decorate bikes and the Brunos' truck in full patriotic regalia. You've never seen so much red white and blue in one place! The truck was covered in streamers, tassels, banners, flags, and anything else we could get our hands on that represented the proud colors of our country.

Not only did we deck out the truck and bikes, but we also decked ourselves out. Everyone proudly donned red white and blue hats, wigs and tee shirts embroidered with Family Worship Center's insignia. Even Tony Bruno got into the spirit of the holiday by wearing the "Uncle Sam" hat and beard. That made for fun pictures!

We waited patiently until the parade started at 10:30am. When it finally got underway, Larissa, Rosa, & Laura held the church banner at the front of our group while Noel & Gwyneth rode their fully decorated bicycles. On the sides, our youth group passed out candy to the people lining the streets while Tony & Charlie rode in the truck with the menagerie of Sunday School kids waving and holding their flags.

The whole group was inspired to see how much of our church family came out to cheer us on through our two mile walk. When we arrived at one corner, a whole slew of the church had turned out to help pass out water bottles to the parade participants, courtesy of FWC. They even made contact with the mayor and other officials in the community. Since it was so hot, everyone was very appreciative of this kind gesture. It's just one more way FWC is reaching out to help our surrounding area.

By the end, we were exhausted and hot, so we disbursed, some going to get some pizza and others to relax at home for a while before the next stage of FWC's Grand 4th of July party.

Around 4pm, people started to arrive at the church to help get ready for the BBQ and by 6pm we had a full tri-tip feast set out with all the delicious sides and desserts. And when everyone had their fill, friendly competition ensued with a volleyball game in the parking lot. They even brought out a mini bike and the kids, and even our Pastor, took rides around the lot.

At last! Evening started creeping in, reminding us that soon Fireworks would be ringing through the night, reminding us of our Freedom. We hurried to clean up and reserve prime seating at the Community park for the show.

All the church family gathered around with chairs and blankets in preparation of the fireworks show. And we were not disappointed. Everyone craned their necks to watch the magnificent fireworks display that seemed to be right above our heads with "oohhhs" and "ahhhs".

And thus ended another fabulous 4th of July, celebrating our country's birthday with church family and friends.

View more pictures here

Church Camping Trip 2008 Recap

About 25 people from Family Worship Center ventured out to Bodega Dunes at Bodega Bay for the first annual church camping trip. God was looking down on us and blessed us by providing us with beautiful, warm and sunny days at the beach. The evenings were a bit chilly, but that made it perfect to sit around the campfire, eat s'mores, and in traditional camp spirit, sing songs and tell stories.

Larissa & Charlie managed to come across a Coast Garter Snake one day and after some debate about the name, landed on the name Maximus. While some of us, like Tyler, Nebil and Sis Audrey shied away from the creature, Larissa and Charlie seemed to enjoy their temporary pet snake quite a bit.

The snake wasn't the only wildlife with whose presence we were graced. Raccoons invaded a few ice chests, sneaking off with eggs and bacon. And the skunks. Well, they got a little too close for comfort. You would have thought everyone was stone statues as they waited for them to meander far enough to not get frightened and spray.

One morning, Bro Mike and Bro Matt went diving for abalone. That evening, we were provided a tasty feast with the fruit of their labor. While they were diving, Sis Exum and others channeled her inner-kid and built sand castles. And some of the youth group wasted the time away by playing games such as Balderdash and Monopoly.

We all kept entertained with the seals that had beached themselves on the sand. Charlie even had the great idea to try to pick up one that wasn't doing much moving. That didn't turn out so well when the seal picked up his head and growled at them. Other entertainment was provided by Nebil, who proceeded to sing and dance for everyone.

One of the highlights of the trip was the most magnificent sunset on Friday evening. As the streaks of orange painted the sky over the water, we were reminded of the Greatness of God and his creation.

It was a spectacular trip. Everyone had a great time building lasting relationships with one another and creating a bond of friendship. We look forward to next year's camping trip!

View More Pictures
